How long can hair lightener/bleach be left in hairn before it's damaging?

I recently made the mistake of trying a new hairdresser. I usually have a dark quasi colour all over my hair and a streak of red. I went for red because it's the only bright colour that does not require bleaching.

This new hairdresser however did bleach my hair (unbeknownst to me at the time) before applying the colour, which within a week has become pink! He originally said that the foils must stay on for 10 minutes but that turned into an hour.

Large sections of the dyed hair are now orange and yellow and extremely dry with split ends which I did not have before the hair cut! I'd like some advise as to whether an hour of bleachin is what has caused this and am very greatful for any light shed on the subject.

Thank-you

Would think the bleach has dried your hair out. Put warm olive oil on, its a great conditioner, leave as long as poss and use a very gentl shampoo

Have you gone back and complained to the salon? MAybe they could do a free deep conditioning treatment - if not just spread the word so your mates don't go there - hit them in their pocket

I depends on the pigment of your hair, color. i am a natural red head and it takes bout 40 mins. but you would check them after 20 mis and then 30 mins in case they set sooner. An hour is way too long no matter what color hair you have.
