Whats the best hair dye to go brown or red?

I have dirty blonde or light brown hair that has been through too much in store dye. I cant afford a salon because my hair is to my lower back and Ive been quoted atleast 150 for a single color. Its oily at the roots and dry at the ends so I use a deep conditioner, as well as a leave in for the ends. I know after this description I shouldnt dye it, but its a faded strawberry blondish color except for my darker roots. I want to go with a brown with red highlights, but I have to use a store (walmart, target, etc). I have very light pink/blue undertoned skin and gray blue eyes. Any ideas on a good product or specific color? I dont like Garnier, so not that. It never holds to my hair and dries it out terribly. Thanks!

I LOVE...Colour Expert....it is a bit more expensive than other brands......but it also has a seperate highlighting kit. It is the only brand that I have found that is closest to the color it shows on the box.....and you control where and how light you want your highlights........I want to say its by Loreal.....but the bos is red and is larger than the others. usually somewhere between $16 and $23.....but well worth it.

i use Clairol Herbal Essences and they have a color i cant think of the name i want to say its berry but its a medium red very pretty color or you could try something like ash brown that will be brown with the red tints you want good luck this stuff smells like flowers and leaves your hair soft it also has a 5 week color seal conditioner

I would say brown - red coloring would contrast your "cool" color features and conflict too much. blues and grays portray the essence of lower temperatures (sort of like a painting painted in shades of blue/gray) therefore, brown would better suit your hair - specifically not such a rich brown, but a smoother brown.

it sound like you have already done enough damage to your hair. I suggest you get it cut to remove the dead damaged hair. Keep cutting until your natural hair color is back and then leave it alone. Once you start coloring your hair, you have to keep it up.

Loreal makes the one that has highlights and color is the same box. you might need 2 boxes, which will run you about $30, but it's pretty good. i've used it a couple times and it's easy, especially if you have a friend to help you with the highlights :)

I like to use Loreal myself it cost a little more but it is worth it- a conditioner comes with it to use I use a little of it and keep the rest for later!! I tried the dark blond and I like it!! This is the only brand that I like!!!
