Dying and relaxing afro hair?

Hi,

I have very long and course natural afro hair which I used to get relaxed on a semi regular basis by a friend training to be a hairdresser, she once did a relaxing treatment and dyed my hair on the same evening and although i am confident relaxing my hair myself, I'm worried about using the dye. If the two shouldn't be done together with out professonal assistance, which should be done first?

I have used Lusters Pink and Dark and Lovely relaxers and will hopefully use the Dark and Lovely range of dye's.

Also, I know i'm a pain but i really fancy this two tone hair colour like Liz McDonald on Corrie, but being mixed race would this suit????. Any suggestions greatfully recieved. Buying products end of week

you can only relax and colour your hair on the same day if the colour is a semi permant. other wise if you use a permant colour you will see your hair washing down the drain the next time you come to wash it! when relaxing and colouring on the same day you should always do the relaxer 1st. i'd also say that the two tone thing would work with colours like copper and blonde, brown and caramel ect! hope this helps

If you are going to relax your hair and dye it in the same day, then I suggest you use a dye that is ammonia free. Relaxers are very harsh on hair and tend to strip hair, so it would be best if you stuck with a dye that isn't so harsh and will only coat your hair with color.

Clairol and L'Oreal make several dyes (permanent and semi-permament) that are ammonia free. You should check them out.

relaxers are very harsh on hair so if you must use the relaxer before dyeing. and don,t do the Liz thing it,s way out of style now if you fancy two tones try having a lighter or brighter colour down one side of the hair at the front that looks good on any completion and make sure you buy a good brand of hair dye don,t go for the cheap ones there that price for a reason good luck

First, apply the haircoloring. I recommend Clariol Texture and Tones Haircolor for African American Women. Then buy Revlon Realistic Relaxer Mild Formula
