What Hair Dye would you recommend that won't totally kill my hair?

Hey! I'm going to dye my already dark brown hair a little bit darker... so a darker brown color (but not that fake black color..!)

I was wondering what brand I should use... I heard Garnier Fructis has some nice hair dyes?

I don't have time to go to a salon, so please don't say that...

And, it has to be a good dye in order to cover a couple of hot pink streaks... hehe =)

Thanks in advance!

Clairol Nice n' Easy is what I used before becoming blonde with highlights. Now I make sure of a salon appointment once a month after my lavender adventure at a really bad salon. After all, my mother goes once a week! I deserved to be spoiled at least 1.5 hours a month....and so do you.

Get really good conditioner that you keep on your hair for at least 1/2 hour. Dead, brittle dark hair is inexcusable with all the products available now.

actually, nowadays alot of hair dyes are not damaging to your hair. in fact some dyes are enriched with vitamins and nutrients. the best brand to get is Wella. you can get it at sally's beauty supply. you'll want a 2N or 3N for dark brown hair color result. you'll also need a small bottle of 20 volume developer and an applicator bottle and gloves. all this should cost around $10. if you don't have a sally's near you, and you are getting the dye from a pharmacy (or walmart) try Loreal Excellence in 2N (dark brown) this probably costs between $5 and $10.

Can't help you with anything store bought, as a professional, I recommend Shades EQ, it has no ammonia which is what is damaging to your hair. Go to a salon and have a professional do it.

Ok, going darker is much less damaging and easier! You could buy a semi-permanent color like Clairol Jazzing, or Clairol Beautiful (both at Sally's), and use it with heat to give your hair long lasting, shiny color. They don't contain any ammonia nor peroxide so it won't damage your hair. No mixing, either. One bottle with last through a couple of applications
